Grants to Start a Small Business
Question: I am wondering if you can direct me to a Grant Writer located in Orlando, Answer: Unfortunately, a grant writer can't help you with starting a business unless
Fl. I am looking to start a new small business and am in need of a Grant
Writer.
you are starting a nonprofit business. Grants are generally not available to
individuals wanting to start a business. You should contact your Small
Business Development Center. They should be able to help you for free if
there is anything available. I've been in the business of grant writing for
over 16 years and have never known anyone to get a grant to start a
business. Unfortunately, there are many fast talking salesmen and women out
there trying to make a fast buck making people like you believe these types
of grants are plentiful. They are not.

I agree. Not many grants out there these days for "for profit" corporations. However, if you're willing to put in the time and effort to plan and implement your plan, you can grow a profitable business from scratch, with a minimum monetary investment. It just takes time! I help people with the marketing aspect of their business. They might have a product, but reaching people with that product seems to be most people's main struggle! You can find many articles on marketing at the Business Marketing Tips, Tools, & Ideas Blog.
I'd have to disagree. What about the programs that provide cash awards for things like the best business plan? What about a grant program that was specifically started for those who were foreigners that came to the US to start a business of their own - that grant program provides them with a small amount of grant money to get their business started - one very good example that I cited on my blog was about a guy who was a puppeteer and used to work with the city of New York until he had to stop because of budget cuts. He received grant money to start a business (I should say rather that he continued his puppet business).
There are enough "for-profit" grant programs out there to dispel this myth of there being too little or hardly any "for-profit" grants out there.
