RE: Enquiry from US Government Grants

Question:
I would like to contact an individual who can inform me about various
government grants available for individuals seeking to go into business, and
for education.

Answer:
I do not know of any such grants. There are low interest loans, but not
grants. Many companies advertise they can help you get these grants but it
is my belief they are falsely advertising and will just take your money and
run. For starting a business you should check the small business development
center in you community. If there are any such grants they will know. For an
education grant talk to the financial aid departments in the college or
university you want to attend. Finding grants for individuals is like
finding a needle in a haystack. While some MAY be available they will be few
and far between, with millions of people looking for the same thing.

Grants for Motorcycle Rally

Question:

Dear Beverly,

I'm Vicky Jones with the Buchanan County Sheriffs' Office. I attended your
Grant Class last August in Myrtle Beach, SC. The class was great by the
way. My grant writing is sailing along. What I'm finally getting around to
contacting you about is this, I've been asked to help a local group find
some funding for a charitable motorcycle rally. The group is not a 501c3,
but the rally will be non-profit. How do I even begin to search for funds
with this limitation? Having them apply for 501c3 status is not an option.
Any ideas or suggestion you could provide me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration in this matter.

Vicky Jones, Administrative Assistant
Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office

Answer:

Vicky,

It’s very hard to get grants for organizations that do not have a
non-profit, 501c3 status with the IRS. In fact, it’s nearly impossible
unless the organization is doing research or creating jobs. My suggestion is
that the Motorcycle Rally collaborates with a non-profit, 501c3 organization
in your community to put on the event. If the Motorcycle Rally is raising
money for a good cause, the collaborating partner will benefit by getting
good public relations visibility.

Professional Grant Writing Career Opportunity

Beverly,

I had such an amazing time at your workshop, and am very impressed with all of your accomplishments and experience.  I feel like I learned so much from you. I now better understand why some of the grants that I have written in the past did not get approved; and I have a clearer understanding of professional grant writing.  I am very excited about  grant writing; and SUPER excited about the  professional grant writing career opportunity you phoned me with this morning.  I am pleased and grateful that you chose me to offer this  grant writing career opportunity to.  I hope that you won’t mind acting as my mentor from time to time.  I want so much to succeed in this area…for myself, but especially for the people I write the grants for.  There is so much good that can be accomplished through writing grants, and I am eager to get started.  Once again thank you very much for your instruction and assistance getting started.

Sincerely,

Kae
