From Teacher to Professional Grant Writer

"Your training workshop was just what I needed to transition into this new, district position. To date I have brought in $124,560, but you and I knew that since my district's seven schools' API scores are all over 900 (CA schools' target is 800) and that our district Federal free and Reduced Lunch rate is extremely low, 3 - 4%, instead of the required 40% and above, that I would be struggling this first year. Approximately 50% of my time is spent on grant writing, the other 50% is spent on public relations, communication, etc. I have successfully written a California Distinguished Schools Award application and anticipate that the school will be invited to apply for the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award this coming year. This has been the perfect job for me this year. After teaching K-8th grades for the past 34 years, I find that the flexibility I have with my time has been crucial to the personal events in my life."
