Breast care grants are typically awarded to health care agencies to provide breast cancer screening, diagnostics, and treatment. Some breast care grants are provided for equipment, staffing, mobile mammography vans, research, and education. Between 2000 and 2005, the following foundations provided breast care grants: Aetna Foundation, Avon Foundation, Citigroup Foundation, Dreyfus Foundation, Fifth Third Foundation, Gap Foundation, and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The largest single recipient of a breast care grant went to Cicatelli Associates in 2003 for $4,675,000 from the Avon Foundation.
The Avon Foundation and Susan G. Komen Foundation are the largest funders for breast care grants in the United States. Since 1982, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has awarded more than 850 breast care grants to fund research and support community-based projects that focus on breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade began in 1993 as an initiative of the Avon Foundation. Its mission is to provide women, particularly those who are medically underserved, with direct access to breast cancer education and early detection screening services such as mammograms and clinical breast exams. In 2000, Avon expanded the crusade by funding breast care grants for:
- Community outreach and referral programs.
- Support services for breast cancer patients and survivors, including financial assistance for biopsies for uninsured women, counseling, transportation, child care, and more.
- Educational seminars that teach the "science" of breast cancer and methods of effective advocacy.
- Medical research on breast cancer.
The federal government also awards breast care grants through the Centers for Disease Control for conferences; Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Minority Health for staffing breast care projects; and Department of Defense for research. Beverly Santicola, President of U.S.G.G., generated more than $4,000,000 in breast care grants between 2002 and 2004 for two of her clients, The Rose and the Asian American Health Coalition of Greater Houston, Inc. (AAHC) These two agencies combined received over 50 grants to provide breast cancer screening, diagnostics and access to treatment for more than 9,000 women low-income, uninsured women in Texas in three years. The annual breakdown of grants awarded to these clients averaged more than one million per year:

Grants awarded to The Rose and AAHC for breast care projects came from a variety of private and corporate foundations, as well as state and federal sources, including grants from the American Cancer Society, Avon Foundation, Susan G. Komen Foundation – Houston Affiliate, John S. Dunn Foundation, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities, TJX Foundation, Cullen Trust for Healthcare, Rockwell Fund and Methodist Hospital. State funding came from the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program, and federal grants came from the Office of Minority Health and Centers for Disease Control.
