Grant writers help private or public non-profit agencies apply for funding to support the programs/projects they provide.  Beverly Santicola, President of U.S.G.G., has trained hundreds of grant writers around the nation to improve their skills. Beginning grant writers, as well as seasoned professionals, claim her workshops to be the best they have ever attended.

Bob Dospoy, new to the field of grant writing, attended a class in Pittsburgh and later wrote an e-mail to say, “Beverly, I received word yesterday that our grant was funded for the total amount of $97,410!  It was one of 54 across the nation.  Thank you for all the help that you have given me.  In the past few months we've received several smaller grants in the $2,000 - $5,000 range based on the methods that you taught in PGH. As far as I'm concerned, WE did it!  So, thanks again and hope to see you in the spring!”  Grant writers who attend U.S.G.G. workshops range from ones who are new to a position and have never written a grant proposal before to Ph.D.’s who write all of the federal grant proposals for their institution.  Even highly experienced grant writers write glowing evaluations and many return over and over again.

According to a 2003 survey, the median salary for grant writers in nonprofit organizations is approximately $44,600 per year, with a range from $36,100 to $49,000. Many grant writers work as independent contractors, part-time or on a per project basis.

The U.S.G.G. “Day Two” agenda includes a segment on “Grant Writing as a Career” for individuals who want to freelance as a Grant Writer or advance their career in the field of fund development.  Topics covered include consulting fees, working on a percentage, personal service contracts, income tax implications, and how to get paid when the grantor won’t allow expenditures for grant writers.

All training affiliates of U.S.G.G. remain active in the field of grant writing and freelance for one or more non-profit organizations.  Beverly Santicola, founder of U.S.G.G., has over 25 years of experience in management, including 15 years within the non-profit sector. She has generated over $7 million dollars in grant funding over the last seven years for elementary and secondary education, technology, economic development, labor-management cooperation, and health care. Since 2001 Santicola has authored more than 35 award winning grant proposals to provide breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment for 9,000 low-income, uninsured women in Texas. She is currently working with Craig MacFarlane of 20/20 Inner Vision to increase graduation rates in the U.S., the Asian American Health Care Coalition of the Greater Houston Area, Inc. to establish a Federally Qualified Health Center, and Wayland Baptist University – San Antonio to build a Nursing and Teacher Education Center. Other organizations Santicola has served in writing grant proposals include the American G.I. Forum, Area Labor Management Cooperative Council of East Central Ohio, Coshocton County Resource Network, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, The Classical Academy and The Rose.
